Physical Science

Physical science is the study of matter and energy.  Matter is the substance(s) that make up all physical objects.  In other words, matter is anything that takes up space.  Energy is defined as the ability to do work.  It is easier to describe energy than to explain it.  For example, when someone throws a ball, he/she has given the ball energy.  Another example is when a cheetah runs, it uses a lot of energy.  Also, food provides the necessary energy for the cheetah to be able to run.  Ultimately, physical science is the relationship between matter and energy.  It explains why paper burns but gold does not; why it is harder to throw a bowling ball than a baseball; and how water turns into steam and back into water.  All of the answers have to do with matter and energy.
