PUNS Database

Illinois PUNS Database Information

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) maintains a statewide database known as the PUNS (Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services) database. This system records information about individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who may be in need of services and supports.

IDHS uses the PUNS database to:

  • Select individuals for services as funding becomes available,

  • Plan for future service needs, and

  • Develop proposals and materials for budgeting and resource allocation.

Registration in the PUNS database is the first step toward receiving developmental disability services in Illinois. Individuals who are not registered in PUNS will not be in the queue for State-funded developmental disability services.
